From November 2019 to November 2023, Gary Sims served as the President and CEO of Brightshores Health System (formerly Grey Bruce Health Services), a large regional health centre that operates six hospitals in the Grey Bruce region as part of an integrated rural health system.
Prior to leading Brightshores, Gary served as founder, President, and CEO of Blanche River Health (Kirkland and District Hospital & Englehart and District Hospital). He is the former CEO of Deep River and District Hospital and was the CEO of a 200-bed long-term facility in Peterborough prior to that. Altogether, Gary has four decades of healthcare experience from both the acute care and long-term care sector.
Gary started his career as a hospital pot washer, before going back to school to become a Registered Nurse. In addition to receiving his BScN, Gary holds a Masters of Education with a focus on research methodology and is a graduate of the Advanced Health Care Leadership Program at Rotman School of Business, University of Toronto. He has done executive training programs at both Harvard Law School, and at MIT in Massachusetts.
With a vast, hands-on background in health care solutions and medical management, having managed 2000 staff, 1500 volunteers, and 500 physicians under his auspices, Gary brings a unique and proactive approach to the Clover Health Solutions Team.
